Leongatha was first settled in the 1880’s and subsequently saw the area open up even more when the railway line from Melbourne finally arrived. There are several historic buildings including the Court House and Post Office that are still standing today. It’s two main streets of McCartin and Bair St have recently been redesigned to extend the streetscape with wider footpaths including seating areas, plantar boxes and general beautification.
The town has a thriving theatre scene with regular productions and also a big sporting community within.
