The short drive from town toward the beach comes to a finish, with a final walk taking around 20 minutes through coastal shrub. You’ll walk along a sandy stretch of inaccessible road, then turn off the official trail to your right, though either track will lead to the beach.

The seas are often wild, but equally impressive as they crash onto the rocky shoreline. This is definitely not a place to swim, but instead it’s the perfect place to find solitude as you walk along the sand or find a quiet spot to sit up on the di=nes and watch the world go by.

The Baxters Wetland Bird Hide is a haven for many types of birds. It is easy to access and only requires a short walk from the car parking area. As you head down a grassy trail, look for the turn off on your right where you’ll find the bird hide. This should only take you a couple of minutes.

The bird hide has a bench seat with viewing area looking out toward the low land waterway. There are a few nesting boxes and I see small birds darting in and out. I do spot several ducks and a couple of purple swamp hens cruising the waterway. One unidentified lonesome bird sits atop the nest peering off aimlessly into the distance. If only I was a bird expert I’m thinking. Is that an egret?
